Shantel is of Dutch & Norwegian descent. 75% Dutch, 25% Norwegian. Surname "VanSanten" comes from Holland. Her grandfathers had settled in Minnesota, they were diary farmers; other set of grandfathers raised cows and pigs for meat.

Shantel first met Canadian actor Victor Webster (known for his works in "Motherland: Fort Salem", "Continuum", "Mutant X", "Days of Our Lives") on the sets of the TV Movie Love Blossoms(2016), They in fact played the lead roles of Violet Chappel and Dec Granger in the movie.

The two got engaged on 9th February 2021, and eventually got married in October 2021. In January 2023, Victor filed for divorce.
