So you've been lusting after that brand new pair of butt-sculpting, moisture-wicking, totally adorable leggings for a while—buuut they come at a hefty price, and you *do* need to pay rent this month. (Womp, womp.) Don't get me wrong, as Hearst's executive fashion director, I love a good pair of Lululemon leggings or high-performance sneakers as much as the next active woman, especially if it features some new technology or innovation that's going to help me PR.
When it comes to basics and everyday exercising staples, though? The good news is that you can still look and feel great during your workouts—without dropping $100 on a single pair of leggings. Trust me, cheap workout clothes that are both cute and functional absolutely do exist. From Old Navy and Target to Kohl's and Macy's, all sorts of store stock affordable workout clothes that can pass for their more expensive counterparts these days.
When I look for budget-friendly options, though, there are a few things I check for: quality fabric that will stand up to the sweatiest workouts, leggings that are squat-proof (read: not see-through), and tagless items that won’t irritate my skin. I also tend to choose the more affordable route with t-shirts or tank tops since I tend to take those off once I get heated up anyway.
