Costco’s Kirkland Signature brand has a reputation for offering high-quality products at great prices, and their liquor offerings live up to it for the most part. I was very impressed with the Kirkland Signature Vodkas.

Kirkland offers an impressive variety of scotch and whiskey with some solid options too. In our house, we love margaritas, so tequila tends to be the liquor we drink the most. Is Kirkland Signature Tequila a good buy, or are you better off sticking to traditional tequila brands? You can read the full review for the complete answer, but I can tell you right now that I’m a repeat buyer!

Location in Store

You can find both the anejo and blanco tequila in the Costco liquor store. The item number for the Kirkland Signature Anejo Tequila is 1327189 and the number for the Kirkland Signature Blanco Tequila is 1550208.

Who makes Costco Kirkland Signature Tequila?

In case you’re wondering if the same company that makes Patron or Don Julio also bottles the Kirkland Signature Tequila, the answer is no.

Santa Lucia Distillery in Mexico bottles both the Kirkland Signature anejo and blanco tequila. The distillery sells a bunch of different brands of tequila but is most known for its “Distilador” and the company started in the year 1940.

Taste

Anejo

This tequila anejo is way stronger tasting and more flavorful than the silver tequila, anejo means the tequila has been aged in oak barrels for at least one year so you get a strong oak flavor and smell. Due to the longer time period the tequila rests in oak is what gives the tequila the amber color.

My husband took one for the team and slowly sipped the tequila on it’s own to get the true flavors. Noticeable smells are agave, caramel, brown sugar, vanilla and of course oak!

It tastes pretty much like it smells with a very mild burn and not too much of an aftertaste! This is not a cheap, disgusting, gasoline-tasting tequila. We both thought it tasted smooth and like a high-quality tequila.

Blanco

Blanco tequila is much different than anejo. It isn’t aged at all and is definitely not for sipping. I have to say I prefer the Kirkland Signature Silver Tequila over the Blanco.

The blanco is sharp, citrusy and a bit sour tasting. It tastes and smells more like cheap tequila if you know what I mean. It’s totally fine in mixed drinks like margaritas or palomas but is not for shots or drinking straight.

Cost

Anejo

I paid $43.99 for the one-liter bottle of tequila. This is pretty reasonable considering any tequila isn’t cheap where I’m from. It’s also cheap for a pretty decent-tasting, high-quality sipping tequila.

Blanco

This is a big bottle of tequila! The 1.75-liter bottle of Blanco tequila costs $64.99 Canadian which isn’t bad for 100% Blue Weber Agave but it’s also not really cheap either.

Serving Suggestions

Anejo

This tequila can be enjoyed straight as a sipping tequila or you can use it to make golden margaritas or other mixed drinks like a Mexican mule or a tequila old-fashioned. I probably wouldn’t buy it solely to make mixed drinks because there are cheaper options that I think work better for co*cktails.

Blanco

I absolutely wouldn’t recommend this for sipping or even a fancy co*cktail with premium ingredients. It’s fine for margaritas and similar co*cktails like palomas and tequila sunrises.

Overall

Give it a try!

This Kirkland Signature Tequila Anejo is reasonably priced and is great for sipping alone or using for margaritas or other drinks. The Blanco is a reasonable price and good for mixed drinks, it’s nothing spectacular though.

Have you tried either of these tequilas from Costco? What did you think of them?
